Make your solo Christmas a blast!

Is this your first solo Christmas? Make it the best one ever!

Christmas can feel a bit emotional  and overwhelming for some but did you know that more people are choosing a solo Christmas?

A lot of people try to avoid the stress that sometimes comes with the holidays. Some prefer to stay home, watch movies, and cook their favorite meals. Others like to get outside, go for walks, take photos, or do hands-on projects.
Some people travel to run away from everything!

All of these are good choices.

Spending time with others can be great, whether you visit friends, share a meal, or just hang out. But you might not want that every year.
If you don’t feel like explaining yourself, hosting, or going out of obligation, you don’t have to.
You can make a solo Christmas fun by focusing on your own interests.

Create your solo Christmas traditions

Start by creating new traditions just for yourself, like preparing a special breakfast with your favorite ingredients, indulging in a classic movie marathon, or crafting.

I love the Christmas season, and I don’t make my holidays around large meals or family schedules.

Many women feel the pressure of traditional family expectations during the holidays, which can make this time overwhelming.

It’s important to remember that it’s okay to celebrate the holidays in a way that feels right for you.

My solo Christmas tradition

This year, and maybe in the future, I’m trying something new.

I’m traveling to visit a few Christmas markets. My first solo Christmas was in Berlin, and it changed how I see the holidays. I went to a few markets and It was a fun way to experience Berlin’s holiday traditions, listen to carols, enjoy good food.

If you live alone and expect a quiet Christmas, it can sometimes feel lonely, and that’s completely normal. But this solitude also presents a great opportunity. You can try something new, get back into an old hobby, or simply enjoy your own company.

Creative hobbies for a solo Christmas

I often hear from women who aren’t sure what to do with the long holiday weekend.

My advice is simple:

Choose a creative world to step into.

Choose two. Hobbies can keep you company, help you meet people, and open parts of yourself you haven’t visited in years.

When I travel solo, sketching and photographing keep me steady and present.

When I draw, everything slows down. My mind focuses on shapes, lines, and colors while the outside world fades. It is calming. It is grounding. It is fun.

You may discover the same thing once you start creating, even in small ways.

It is never too late to start something new

Starting a creative hobby at 50, 60, 70, and beyond is not about age.

Curiosity has no expiration date.

There are so many creative hobbies for women over 50.

Have you tried croquet? It will allow you to be outdoors, be around people, and move your body without hurting yourself.

Knitting or sewing is becoming increasingly popular, and there are many groups around the world that meet to knit, crochet, and sew. Participate in a workshop near you.

Make your solo Christmas fantastic!

Do you need help to Choose your new creative path?

Set aside a quiet hour. Make a cup of tea. Get your journal and let’s get to work.

Ask yourself gentle questions.

  • What do you enjoy doing?
  • Do you prefer working alone or with a group?
  • Do you like being outdoors or indoors?
  • Are you drawn to something creative, something physical, or something that teaches you how to use your hands in a new way?
  • Do you want to write, sketch, take photos, cook, collect, study languages, learn music, or explore something scientific?

Patterns begin to appear when you ask yourself these questions. If you already know what you want to try, wonderful. If you don’t, keep going. The search itself becomes a small adventure.

How the search for a hobby will change your life

Join short workshops to get a superficial idea of your possible hobby. If you like it, join a more in-depth class.
Don’t stop joining workshops until you find something you really like.

You may like more than one thing, and it’s great. Travel for workshops.

Talk to people about the hobbies you are learning, and do lots of research on the subject.

A journal will help you choose a creative hobby

Write down your thoughts, feelings, and ideas in your journal. A journal will help you keep track of everything you are doing and, eventually, help you decide.

I love journals. They help me document things, and it’s a great place to vent.

A quest for a hobby is a lot of fun because it will get you out of your comfort zone and into an adventurous state of mind. Fantastic for your mind!

Meeting people through your hobby

Hobbies and workshops are great, stress-free ways to meet people.

You will meet like-minded people, giving you all something to chat about. It’s fun to exchange information and ideas about a subject you all like.

You may make a few friends over time, and you will make interesting acquaintances on the way.

Practice on your own, share, and play with people.

Look for groups that create together in person and online.

Keep things fresh: Join classes (and workshops) that teach you different aspects of your hobby.

Find unique ways to share your interests.

Plan trips around your hobby

Making plans around your hobbies is so much fun because it will change how you travel. You can make part of your trip about visiting an area and enjoying being a tourist, and then end your trip with a great workshop or short class in a town.

You will live like a local for a week or more and see the area from a whole different point of view.

Collages are a fun way to try something artistic if you have never done anything like that before.

Sketching and photography can be done anywhere. Cooking is lots of fun, and there are great workshops all over the world.

Crafting and music are fantastic. Try them all!

A hobby will give you structure, lift your mood, reduce stress, and make your solo time feel productive and meaningful.

Creative focus improves mental well-being and gives you a sense of purpose.

When I work on my watercolors, I don’t think about anything else. My world becomes the drawing I am doing. Whenever I draw illustrations of people, they become alive, and I really enjoy that.

I believe hobbies help everyone! Women over 50, kids, and middle-aged people.

Hobbies help us to step into another reality and take a vacation from our everyday routines!
