Living Deliciously After 50!

Somewhere between Lisbon and a long afternoon in the Alentejo, I stopped waiting for ice to settle down and started living the one I actually had.

About Marguerite Beaty

I am Marguerite, the photographer, illustrator, and, writer and at 50 and Rising.

I am currently writing a book with short stories and illustrations, yet to be titled. Portugal is the main character.

I have lived in Brazil, Argentina, Switzerland New York, Miami, and several places in Portugal. These days, Lisbon is my home.

I started 50 and Rising after years of traveling through the UK and Europe in my late 50’s and finding the same thing everywhere: Women in their 50’s, 60’s and beyond doing interesting things. Traveling solo, building new lives, making good food, and creating beautiful art. But getting very little acknowledgement for it.

That felt like something I wanted to look into.

About 50 and Rising

50 and Rising is for women over 50 and beyond who are past the idea that the best is behind them and are done with ageing gracefully.

I share stories of living deliciously after 50, the travel, food, and slow mornings. Sometimes I even add the occasional insight that only comes from having already made a ton of mistakes.

If you are a woman over 50, in your 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, or somewhere beyond, and still curious; you are in the right place.

Welcome to 50 and Rising.

A little bit about my past lives

I’ve had a few.

  • Ar.co Centro de Arte e Comunicao Visual, where I studied painting for two years.
  • Full scholarship from the University of Miami to obtain a Master of Fine Arts in Photography.
  • I taught at the University of Miami, Barry University, and the Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale. I exhibited my photos throughout the US and worked as a corporate photographer.
  • Taught private photography classes and created photo workshops in Miami.
  • I worked as a stockbroker in São Paulo, Brazil, for approximately six years. When I moved to New York City in 1988, I wanted to change my career and return to school. I studied at the School of Visual Arts for one year and finished the Bachelor of Fine Arts at Florida International.
