Rua Viriato

Rua Viriato (Viriato Street), in the Saldanha area, is home to the delightful Shakar and has rapidly become Lisbon’s go-to spot for breakfast bliss.

But get ready!

There are various eateries on this street ready to tempt you!

Breakfast at Shakar

This morning’s breakfast was pure bliss. I was treated to a fantastic cappuccino that transported me to a realm of happiness with its robust and smooth aroma.

Shakar’s is known for it’s special coffee blend and roast. You will love their espressos, cold brew, lattes and their salted caramel latte is almost like a dessert!

Shakar’s Waffle

My Belgian-style waffles were pure decadence! They were golden and fluffy, with a colorful assortment of fresh berries. And then, there was a dollop of heavenly coffee cream, adding a rich and luxurious touch that elevated every bite.

The decadence didn’t stop there. A drizzle of irresistible berry coulis blankets the waffles, infusing them with a fruity sweetness. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, a tantalizing drizzle of salted caramel was added, creating a perfect balance of flavors that dance on your palate with each mouthful.

Shakar has different types of granola, tasty pastries, bread and more.

Check out Shakar’s menu!

Sit inside and enjoy their fun atmosphere or outside.

Shakar’s friendly and attentive staff are dedicated-their hospitality leaves a lasting impression, prompting many to return.

I have been there several times and will return for more. It’s that good!

No reservations.

This is a cozy local café and not just a morning hotspot; it’s also a popular lunch spot and a bakery.

I indulged in a classic and simple breakfast. A Portuguese bun slathered with butter and jam and a large cup of coffee with a splash of milk. The Portuguese bun was delicious!

Plate gazing: discovering breakfast delights around me

My neighbor’s plate was a fluffy scrambled eggs paired with toast that looked utterly tempting. Meanwhile, a grand breakfast feast was underway at another table, prompting me to plan my return for protein-packed breakfasts and perhaps a leisurely brunch  for the weekend.

The café was lively and it looked like everyone knew each other.

The staff at the Café Bom Dia welcome some of the regulars by name, and people greet each other as they entered.

While I drank my coffee, I enjoyed the atmosphere of Bom Dia. Conversations flowed, laughter was shared, and I felt comfortable in this friendly cafe. I am happy that I discovered this local restaurant.

Magnolia Bistrot & Wine Bar

I wrote a long article about my fantastic breakfast at Magnolia.

Magnolia seems to be going through some sort of transition and have stated that they are at Calma.

The address is: Largo Agostinho da Silva,1

It doesn’t look like they are serving breakfast. I will research more and post later on.

Seagull Method Cafe is cozy, and you will love the fun vibes and walls, which are full of handwritten quotes and doodles. This is a very unique Lisbon breakfast place!

It’s pet-friendly, too—when I visited, dogs were welcome, but if you’re bringing your furry friend, it’s always a good idea to call ahead to double-check.

Food

The cafe serves a wide variety of dishes for breakfast, from fluffy pancakes and decadent French toast to savory Greek-inspired plates, pulled pork, and burgers. The eggs are perfectly done, the mushroom toast is a dream, and the bread is the best! If you’re in a group, consider sharing a few dishes to taste a bit of everything—Portions are very generous, and you’ll want to sample it all.

Service

The staff here is friendly and attentive. I went early and was served quickly, but Seagull Method gets quite busy, and food might take a little longer during peak hours. Come to Seagull Method with a Portuguese state of mind! Relax, chat with friends, or bring a book if you go solo. The wait is more than worth it!

Reservation

They now accept reservations only on weekdays, so keep that in mind when planning your visit.

What is near Seagull Method Cafe?

The beautiful Principe Real Park is nearby, so plan to walk there and around the neighborhood. Check out the fun shops like Lost In,  Kolovrat, and more. Walk toward the Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcântara to see the gorgeous Castelo de S. Jorge on the other side of town!

Senzi Lisboa

Senzi Lisboa, the New Kid on Rua da Moeda

Rua da Moeda is full of energy, with new cafés and restaurants popping up near the Time Out Market. And now, there’s a new name drawing people in, Senzi Lisboa. It’s the kind of place that looks calm from the outside but surprises you once you step in.

Interior of restaurant, light wood chairs, dark tables, steel, large windows, white and beige color theme

Senzi has a clean, modern design with a hint of both Japan and the Nordics. Think beige walls, light wood, steel, natural tones, and a space that feels both cozy and airy. It’s one of those rooms where you instantly breathe a little easier. Sunlight pours in, bouncing off the soft white walls and polished tables.

This is where you come for breakfast, brunch, or a quiet mid-afternoon break in Lisbon.

You can sip a matcha latte and have one of their amazing cheesecakes while watching Lisbon’s rhythm outside. It’s also the perfect stop after a morning of sightseeing or, like in my case, after visiting the Lisbon Drawing Room.

My friend and I weren’t sure if we were hungry enough to stay. The staff greeted us with a smile and handed us the menu, which looked tempting but we hesitated. Then something unexpected happened, a fellow customer leaned over and told us, “You have to try it. It’s that good.” That was enough convincing for us.

I had read that Senzi serves “simple food.” But let me say this: there’s nothing simple about it.

Green eggs, avocado, asparagus and lettuce on top

Each dish looks like a tiny zen garden, carefully arranged, balanced, and almost too beautiful to eat. The textures, colors, and plating show real thought and skill.

I ordered the green omelet-partly because it reminded me of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham. No ham here, though. Instead, there were slender slices of asparagus, avocado, and a mix of crisp greens that sat beautifully on a creamy omelet. It was so light and delicious.

The staff was lovely throughout and, attentive without hovering. The whole experience felt relaxed and refined.

If you find yourself in Baixa or near the Time Out Market, Senzi Lisboa is well worth a stop. Go for breakfast, brunch, or even just coffee and dessert.

Breakfast at Mila

Mila Eatery for a delicious French toast!

I went to the Mila in the Santos-o-Velho area near many other interesting restaurants that I will be trying soon. They also have a restaurant in the Intendente area.

Arrive early and you will have a peaceful and quiet breakfast. Sit inside or outdoors. Relax. This is where they make your food in real time. No fast food, everything is freshly made and delicious.
