A guide to Lisbon’s hidden gems by neighborhood that I return to often.

These are places that I enjoy because they beautiful, fun and comfortable and easy to spend time in.

Where to find hidden gems in Lisbon

If you are looking for a different side of Lisbon, focus on:

  • Residential neighbourhoods.
  • Smaller cafes and Kiosks.
  • Local markets.
  • Streets where daily life is visible.

Campo de Ourique and Estrela’s hidden gems

Campo de Ourique feels more like a village than a neighborhood. It’s easy to walk, local, and a good place to slow down.

The Kiosk in the Jardim is one of my regular stops. It is a great place for coffee and where you can sit and watch daily life.

The market in Campo de Ourique is also worth your visit. Inside you will find a mix of small food spots and local shops.

OW Otherwise is a men’s clothing store, but many pieces work well for women.  It’s a good place to go if you like unique patterns and colours and well-made shirts.

Dom Pasto  focuses on wool pieces from Serra da Estrela. You will also find pastries and local products.

Metro Creativo for silk scarves and textile design.

If you are in the area, Lully is known for its baguettes and pastries.

Stop by the kiosk for coffee and to enjoy all the activities around you.

During the week you will see groups of people exercising, people walking their dogs and family gatherings.

Best hidden gems in Saldanha area

Parque Eduardo VII is a good place to take a bread from sightseeing. It’s open, shady, easy to find and a useful stop when you need space after walking around the city.

The Mercado 31 de Janeiro is the local market in Saldanha and a good place for lunch or dinner. They have great fish counters and food stalls.

Club de Chateaux is a wine bar focused on French wines and cheese. It is a place to get a sense of the expat life in Lisbon.

Quiet places to stop during the day

  • The Gulbenkian garden  is a carefully curated garden and an ideal place to relax.
  •  Av. da Liberdade has are benches where you can sit and take in the city.
