My Move to Estoril

What do you do when you move to a new home? Do you fix it up quickly so that you feel like you have been there forever or do you take your time to feel the space and atmosphere?

I take my time.

Green Everywhere!

The apartment has a tiny courtyard and a front porch so the first thing that I did was to fill it with plants. I eat breakfast on the porch because it’s nice and shady in the morning. I also paint there.

The courtyard has morning sun and it’s shady in the afternoon. The courtyard is my outdoor office and where I plan to eat dinner and relax in the evenings. It’s a cozy spot, protected from the wind and now it has lovely trees, blooming jasmine, herbs and I can hardly wait for the green to spread out more and hide the white walls.

Which room would you fix up first?

I fixed up the bedroom. It will still go through a few changes but at least I have one room that feels like home.

It’s a soothing room with light colors, lots of light and a few brighter colors here and there.

The room faces the courtyard and my dream is to be able to open the windows and enjoy the plants from my bed but the plants have to grow in so that I cannot be seen from the street.

Vignettes

I created small vignettes throughout the apartment so that when I walk around I feel grounded and I feel at home. I still have a few boxes to unpack and I need to decide how to do the dinning/living room area.

My apartment has lovely clean lines and I want to fix it up in a simple way but with some sort of charm and warmth.

The apartment is in walking distance to very good grocery stores, a pharmacy and a fantastic coffee shop. I love walking around the neighbourhood and seeing all the blooming flowers and beautiful plants. It’s about a 10 minute walk from the beach where I go on my morning and evening walks. The walking path by the beach can get busy so I try to go during off hours which end up being the best times to photograph. I can hardly wait for a cooler weather so that I can sit out there and sketch.
