It’s the season for reading cozy murders, thrillers and spy books!

Table of Contents

Reading list for the fall and winter seasons.

It’s time to cozy up with crime, mysteries and thrillers.

September is here and the days are getting shorter and the evenings a bit cooler. Lisbon mornings are cloudy but by lunch the sun comes out and warms everything up. But there’s a little shift, and I’m feeling the end of summer and the start of autumn. This is my reading season!

Here’s what’s on my reading list for this fall:

My September pick because it’s still summery!

Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum.

Autumn is the time for mysteries, thrillers and Nordic noirs – perfect for getting cozy as the weather gets cold.

My October Picks

Nordic Noirs

  • Blaze Me a Sun by Christoffer Carlsson and Peter Noble

  • Reykjavík by Ragnar Jonasson and Katrín Jakobsdóttir (I’m a huge Ragnar fan and can’t wait for this one!)

  • Under the Storm by Christoffer Carlsson

Scottish Thrillers

  • The Black Loch by Peter May (out this autumn!). His earlier trilogy (The Black House, Lewis Man and The Chess Men) was so good I’ve read them twice!

  • Midnight and Blue by Ian Rankin. Rebus is back and I’m so excited about this!

Cozy Crime

  • Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series is so much fun.

  • Martin Walker’s Bruno series, set in the French countryside, is about a crime-fighting chef with a charming dog. What’s not to love?

Why do we all love crime novels?

They’re like puzzles! We love playing detective, looking for clues, getting it wrong and hunting for more. They keep us hooked and we love it.

Winter Spy Thrillers

Spy novels are action-packed and full of intrigue. They are excellent reads for the shorter and darker winter days.

They will keep you on the edge of your seat and no more winter blues!

I’m looking forward to reading Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner this winter and The Alice Network by Kate Quinn. It was highly recommended to me. The Alice Network was written in 2017- so not a new book like the others on my list.
