4. Sharing and third party services

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share data with service providers that help us run the Site (for example, website hosting, email delivery, and security). These providers process data on our instructions and only as needed to provide their services.

We also use third party platforms that may collect data through embedded content or analytics tools (see sections 5 and 6). In those cases, the third party may act as an independent controller for data they collect for their own purposes.

5. Tools we use

5.1 Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure and understand how visitors use the Site. GA4 can use cookies (for example, to distinguish users and maintain session state) and collect usage data. Cookie settings and expiration can be configured in the Google tag settings.

5.2 Google Search Console (GSC)

We use Google Search Console to understand how our Site performs in Google Search (for example, impressions and clicks). This tool is primarily for site owners and does not require us to set cookies on your device.

5.3 Embedded content: YouTube videos and Instagram posts

Some pages may include embedded YouTube videos and embedded Instagram posts. When you load a page with embedded content, your browser may connect to the third party (Google for YouTube, Meta for Instagram). This can result in data collection by those third parties, such as your IP address, device information, and information about your interaction with the embed.

Where possible, we aim to use YouTube’s “privacy enhanced mode” embeds (youtube-nocookie.com). Even with privacy enhanced mode, data may still be processed by YouTube/Google when you load or interact with the player.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We may also use similar technologies like local storage or pixels. Under Portuguese rules, storing or accessing information on your device generally requires clear information and the ability to refuse, except where it is strictly necessary to provide a service you explicitly request.

We use the following categories:

  • Strictly necessary: needed for the Site to work (for example, basic security or form functionality).
  • Analytics: help us understand usage (for example, GA4 cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>).
  • Embedded media: third party embeds (YouTube, Instagram) may set cookies or use similar technologies.

Managing cookies: You can manage cookies via your browser settings. If we display a cookie banner or preference tool, you can also manage non-essential cookies there. If you refuse analytics or embedded media cookies, some features (especially videos and social embeds) may not work as expected.

7. International data transfers

Some of our service providers (including Google and Meta) may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, transfers are protected using appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

8. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for:

  • Contact form messages: kept as long as needed to handle your request and for reasonable record keeping.
  • Newsletter and notifications: kept until you unsubscribe (and we may keep a minimal record to respect your opt out).
  • Analytics data: retained according to GA4 settings for the configured period.

9. Your rights (GDPR)

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability. You can also withdraw consent at any time for activities based on consent (for example, newsletters).

To exercise your rights, contact us using https://50andrising.com/contact/.

We welcome readers worldwide. If you want to exercise your data protection rights or have questions about how we use your data, contact us via our contact form.

10. Complaints

If you are in the EU/EEA, you can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Portugal, this is the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados).

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure.

12. Children

The Site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last changed.
